Description
Our verdict: A good choice for autumn spider season. The 1-litre bottle is enough to treat every window, door and skirting board in an average home, and its water-based formula doesn’t stain or smell. It kills spiders it reaches and leaves a barrier that the manufacturer says lasts up to 12 weeks.
Best for: whole-house perimeter treatment | Size: 1 litre | Active: pyrethrum extract
What is Pestmatic Spider Killer Spray?
Pestmatic Spider Killer is a UK-made, ready-to-use spray based on pyrethrum, the natural insecticide extracted from chrysanthemum flowers. It kills spiders on contact. Once dry, it leaves a residual layer that the manufacturer says keeps protecting treated areas for up to 12 weeks, and works against eggs and juveniles as well as adults.
It’s water-based, odourless and non-staining, so you can use it on carpets, curtains and soft furnishings as well as hard surfaces. It also works on other crawling insects, which helps if you’re seeing woodlice or beetles alongside spiders.
How to use it properly
Most spiders that come indoors in autumn are males wandering in from outside looking for a mate. So the aim is a barrier at the places they get in, not just spraying the ones you can see.
- Clear webs and egg sacs first with a vacuum, especially in corners, behind furniture and in the loft.
- Spray entry points. Apply a band along window frames and sills, door thresholds, air bricks, vents and gaps around pipes.
- Treat the indoor edges. Spray along skirting boards, behind sofas and wardrobes, under beds and in garages and sheds.
- Spray any spiders directly to kill them on contact.
- Let it dry before letting children or pets back in, and reapply every 8–12 weeks through the season.

Frequently asked questions
How long does Pestmatic spider spray last?
The manufacturer says one application gives up to 12 weeks of protection on treated surfaces. Reapply sooner on surfaces you clean often or outside after heavy rain.
Is Pestmatic spider spray safe for pets?
Keep pets out of the room until surfaces are fully dry. It’s very toxic to fish, so cover tanks and keep it away from ponds. Take extra care with cats, which are more sensitive to pyrethrum-based insecticides.
Can I use it on carpets and sofas?
Yes. It’s water-based and non-staining, so it can be used on hard or soft furnishings. Test on a hidden patch first if you’re unsure about a fabric.
Why are there so many spiders in my house in autumn?
September to October is mating season, when male house spiders leave their hiding places to search for females. Read our spider season guide for more.
